OPTICAL DESIGN

3D View of Wide Angle Lens

The optical design process starts with specifications. Sometimes a customer is not sure how to write a complete lens specification. We work to help customers define specifications that are realistic and make sense for successful manufacturing of their custom lens. If you are experienced enough to write your own spec, please visit our Design Your Own Lens page. Otherwise, feel free to contact us and we can help define your lens specification.

Lens Design Specifications

Once the specification has been determined, the preliminary optical design can be started. Depending on the lens specification we can start from scratch or from a similar lens design as a starting point.

After we have a preliminary design that has been reviewed and approved by the customer, we move on to the design finishing phase. This consists of desensitizing the lens design for manufacturing, tolerance analysis, and mechanical design. Once this is done the design is ready for manufacturing prototype lenses.
